Welcome to St. Mary's Preschool!!
About Me:
My name is Jill (Normand) VanWey (last name is pronounced VanWhy). I will introduce myself to your child as "Mrs. Jill". I am married to Craig VanWey (this is us in Colorado), and have been for 18 years since this past June and together we have two daughters; Megan, who will be a junior, and Alyssa, a 5th grader at SMC.
I also attended St. Mary's-Colgan schools. After high school, I attended Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas and graduated with a B.G.S. degree with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology. With this degree, I worked in the field of Speech Pathology in the school systems (mostly in Missouri) for 10 years. Wanting to further my education, I went back to school and graduated from PSU with a Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education. Using my masters degree, I began working as a preschool educator and continued to do so for 3 years prior to arriving at St. Mary's. When the new elementary school was built, and the preschool was added, I jumped at the chance to become the teacher and with great luck, was offered the position! Although this will be my 7th year at St. Mary's, I have worked with preschoolers for 19 years and I can't see myself doing anything else!
Interests and Hobbies:
My favorite place to be is anywhere with my family, but if someone made me pick a place, I would say the mountains or any place with lots of trees. I love being outdoors..doing anything. I especially love to garden-flowers for now. I also like walking with my friends and our black lab, Cassie. Reading fiction is a definite addiction for me. I love to get lost in a great novel.
When I was working in the speech-pathology field, I never thought that I wanted to be a classroom teacher until I went into the preschool classroom...I was hooked!!! I fell in love with this age group with a fiery passion! I love teaching preschoolers and I feel so lucky that I am allowed to do a job that is so gratifying. Teaching preschoolers about God and His immense love for us makes it even better.
The saints that I aspire to be like are St. Therese the little flower and St. Gianna. I love how St. Therese wrote about how becoming a saint like the "big saints" seemed so daunting, so she decided that she could just love Jesus in her "little way" and become a saint. St. Gianna's story is equally inspirational and I strive to be a great mother as she was. I love reading stories and quotes from Mother Teresa as well. She can really put life in perspective.
Newsletters:
During the school year, I will send home and/or post a weekly newsletter on the school website. I hope to explain any school protocol or procedures along with our activities during the week. I will send these home every Monday (for MWF class) or Tuesday (for TuTh class). Remember to look on our new school website: www.ollsmc.com for additional information!

At the end of the school day, I will take the preschoolers out the southwest corner doors of the elementary building. If your information changes during the school year, please notify me of the changes ASAP.
